Truck art is a form of traditional folk art and decoration that adorns trucks, buses, and other transportation in Pakistan. In the 20th century, Pakistani truck drivers began to personalize their vehicles with intricately painted designs, using bright colors, patterns, and even poetry to express their individual style. Many artists draw inspiration from traditional Pakistani symbols, calligraphy, as well as contemporary pop culture references.
Drivers spent long hours on the road and wanted to make their truck feel more like home by decorating it to become an extension of themselves and where they come from. In addition, decorative trucks were believed a way for drivers to win more business by being more desired for the truck’s appearance.
One of the most famous Pakistani truck artists is Haider Ali, who was most recently noted for his mural of George Floyd which was shared all over the world. Haider Ali grew up in a small village in Punjab and began painting trucks as a teenager where he quickly started to develop a reputation for his innovative designs that caught the attention of international exhibits.
