Story:
In 1958, the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association was established to establish national championships for cue sports. Over the decades, though billiards is the most universally popular, snooker (similar to billiards) gained mass appeal by legendary players that came from Pakistan. By the late 20th century, Pakistan started making its mark internationally, thanks to players like Muhammad Yousuf, Saleh Muhammad, and later, Muhammad Asif to name a few.
The biggest breakthrough in Pakistan’s snooker history came in 1994, when Muhammad Yousuf won the IBSF World Snooker Championship. This tournament, held in Johannesburg, brought together the best amateur snooker players from around the world. Yousuf, from Karachi, made his way through the intense competition and claimed Pakistan’s first-ever world snooker title with the win.
This victory was a turning point for cue sports in Pakistan, as it boosted popularity for games like snooker and billiards, inspiring a new generation of players and local snooker and billiard halls where people can learn and play the game.
In 1998, he became the Asian Snooker Champion, proving that his world title was not just a one-time achievement. His success made him a household name in Pakistan, and he remained a role model and legend for aspiring players. In 2006, he won the IBSF World Masters Championship, further solidifying his status as one of Pakistan’s greatest snooker players and the pioneer who put Pakistan on the global cue ball games map. He has also been prized the Pride of Performance award by the Pakistani government for his accomplishments.
This tee which is inspired by the vintage billiard aesthetic is a nod to him. The calligraphy reads Karachi Billiards in Urdu referencing where he is originally from. "Shot Maar" is an urdu saying that can be translated to "take your shot".
